$80 million for this art work

Sotheby's auction house in New York has announced that Edvard Munch's masterpiece "The Scream" will be auctioned off in Spring this year. The estimated price of $80 million or more is enough to induce some screams from us. The 1895 artwork is one of the most recognized and it depicts a man holding his head while screaming under blood-red sky. It is one of the four versions and this one belongs to Norwegian businessman Petter Olsen. This is the only drawing of The Scream that has been held privately. The other three drawings are owned by National Museum and Munch Museum in Oslo.

This particular version of The Scream is pastel-on-board and therefore is more vibrant and colorful than the other three. It also includes a hand-painted frame and poem by Munch which explains the inspiration for the drawing. For those wanting a glimpse of this prized artwork, Sotheby's will be displaying it in London starting April 13 and in New York starting April 27.
